Step-by-Step GST Registration Process
Step 1: Go to the GST Portal
Visit gst.gov.in and click Services → Registration → New Registration.
Step 2: Generate TRN (Temporary Reference Number)
Fill in:
- I am a: Taxpayer
- State and district
- Legal name of business (as per PAN)
- PAN
- Email address
- Mobile number
You will receive OTPs on your email and mobile. Enter both OTPs to generate a TRN (Temporary Reference Number).
Note: The TRN is valid for 15 days. Complete the application within this period.
Step 3: Fill Part A of the Application
Login with your TRN and complete Part A:
- Business details (trade name, constitution, date of commencement)
- Promoter/partner details (PAN, Aadhaar, designation)
- Authorised signatory details
- Principal place of business address
- Additional places of business (if any)
- Goods and services (HSN/SAC codes)
- Bank account details
Step 4: Aadhaar Authentication (Mandatory from 2025)
As per GSTN advisory from February 2025, Aadhaar authentication is mandatory for all new registrations. You have two options:
Option A: Aadhaar OTP Authentication
- Enter Aadhaar number
- Receive OTP on Aadhaar-linked mobile
- Authenticate online
Option B: Biometric Authentication
- Visit the designated GST Suvidha Kendra or facilitation centre

- Cannot claim ITC or issue tax invoices
