Explanation
Form 26AS (accessible on the income-tax portal) shows: TDS deducted by employers/banks/others, TCS collected, advance tax and self-assessment tax paid, and certain high-value transactions. AIS (introduced 2021, expanded through 2026) additionally shows: savings account interest, dividends, capital gains from shares/MFs, foreign remittances, GST turnover, property purchases, and rental income. Always reconcile your income against both AIS and your own books before filing ITR. Discrepancies in AIS can be responded to online — feedback option available on the portal. If income in AIS is higher than recorded, verify each item and either correct your return or submit a clarification. Verify on the income-tax portal before filing.
